Judging by the first few sketches of the next-generation Kia Rio released today, the South Korean automaker will soon offer a much more attractive entry-level model than the one currently sitting in showrooms.
Longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, the new Rio promises a sportier exterior with sleek curves that will catch the attention of ''progressive, energetic'' consumers in the 25-to-49 age range. Kia's Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer describes the car as ''sporty and elegant.''
The images show a swept-back profile and a character line rising out of the front wheel to give the Rio a sense of movement and fluidity, even when stationary. Inside, the company says the cabin will provide a feeling of quality typically associated with larger, more expensive models.
No technical specs have been announced yet.
The 2012 Kia Rio will make its global debut at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
