After a retest of the Lexus GX 460 by Consumer Reports, following a software upgrade of the stability control system, the publication has decided to revoke the “Don’t Buy” label that it gave the SUV three weeks ago.
The initial test concluded that the GX 460’s rear end slid out sideways during CR’s emergency-handling tests, which could lead to a rollover accident. The software upgrade allows the stability control system to intervene earlier, and instead of kicking out its tail, the SUV understeers when it reaches its traction limit, which is a normal and safer behaviour for this type of vehicle, according to Consumer Reports.
Lexus Canada published a press release stating that, obviously, they are pleased with the new result. GX 460 owners have already been contacted, and recall work has begun. If you own a GX 460 and didn’t yet bring it in for the system upgrade, Lexus urges you to do so.
