Since its launch a year and a half ago, the GLK350 has been a runaway success, beating the pulp out of its Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 rivals on the sales charts.

In a curious move, Mercedes is adding a rear-drive GLK to the line-up in Canada for the 2011 model year. It’s an odd decision, since luxury brands usually offer only their all-wheel drive trims in the Canadian market.

Base price for the new GLK350 is $41,300 before tax, freight and delivery charges. The GLK350 4MATIC now retails for $43,500, up six hundred bucks from its 2010 equivalent.

The 2011 GLK also benefits from colour changes (Cuprit Brown and Pearl Beige replace Fire Opal and Periclase Green), while LED daytime lights are now included with the bi-xenon headlights. Inside, Black Ash wood trim will also be available, and the rear-view camera’s display has been improved with less “fish-eye” effect.

A new $2,500 AMG Sport package is available, which includes aerodynamic add-ons, wheel-mounted shift paddles, 20-inch twin-spoke alloys and bi-xenon headlights. The Premium package now includes the optional panoramic sunroof, while the Technology package adds a media interface.
