Emission-free mobility is the common theme for a trio of MINI Scooter E concepts introduced by BMW on September 23rd at London’s The Vinyl Factory.
Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior VP of Design at BMW Group, unveiled the first of these concepts with the help of British model Agyness Deyn. The hip design is a tribute to the ‘60s and the birth of the original MINI (penned by Alex Issigonis for British Motor Corporation).
The two other scooters will be showcased this week during the 2010 Paris Motor Show, highlighting the iconic brand’s future foray into the world of two-wheelers.
Naturally, this initiative will increase the spotlight on the new electrically-powered MINI E car. However, the eventual market release of MINI scooters will arouse interest among young, fashion-minded consumers on the lookout for the latest trends and greenest technologies.
The Scooter E concepts are motivated by an electric motor built in the rear wheel. Said motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery which can be charged through any conventional power outlet using a 5-metre on-board charging cable. The available range has yet to be announced.
Three different identities
MINI designers endowed each scooter with a unique identity. The first Scooter E Concept is a two-seat variant with a similar color scheme – matte charcoal and yellow – as the MINI E prototypes that are currently crisscrossing several countries.
