Mitsubishi has announced that production of its compact SUV RVR would be transferred from Japan to the Normal, Illinois, plant by mid-2012.
Shinichi Kurihara, president of Mitsubishi North America, says that nearly half of the SUVs built will be exported.
The RVR, or Outlander Sport in the U.S., hit North American markets in November 2010 and shares its platform with the Outlander and Lancer.
Mitsubishi presented its “Jump 2013” plan on January 20, where we learned that the Galant, Eclipse and Endeavour, all built at the Normal plant, would be getting the axe in the next three years.
In all, 1,517 RVRs were sold in North America in January, 1,065 in the U.S. and 452 in Canada.
