If you live in an unsafe region of this planet, since last December, Land Rover can supply you with a versatile, safe and comfortable transportation solution for five people and their luggage : the new Discovery 4 Armoured!

This new version of the luxury SUV called LR4 in North America “enables occupants to travel across challenging terrains in confidence and safety,” says John Graham, Commercial Manager Armoured Programs, Land Rover.

It was designed in cooperation with Centigon, a division of the Belgian Carat Duchatelet group, which specializes in armoured vehicles of all types.

DESIGNED TO PROTECT!

The Discovery 4 Armoured is virtually indistinguishable from a normal production model, yet it features ballistic steel armour and glazing which provides a high level of ballistic protection.

This Discovery can protect against the blast of 15kg of TNT detonated in close proximity to the vehicle. It also provides under floor protection against two DM51 hand grenades.

Feel any better?

To allow a swift exit from a dangerous location, a 375hp 5.0-litre LR-V8 direct-injection gasoline engine mated with a six-speed automatic transmission can move this British SUV (of undertermined weight) from 0 to 100km/h in just 10.6 seconds.

The modified independent air suspension features uprated air springs and retuned dampers, larger diameter anti-roll bars. This Discovery also receives heavy duty Alcon disc brakes front and rear, as well as extra mobility tires and an armoured fuel tank.

Buyers can also chose to add covert lights and siren, flashing headlamps, and an underhood fire suppressant system all offered as options.

But who says that this Discovery cannot offer style and sophistication? Interior appointments still include premium leather upholstery on the seats and sumptuous real wood veneers.

FOR RISKY REGIONS

John Graham describes this vehicle as “the ideal choice for government agencies, security organisations and businesses whose employees are exposed to high-risk locations.”

The meaning of this becomes more obvious as you browse through various national Land Rover web sites. For example, at the bottom the Land Rover Canada’s homepage, in the sitemap you find the hyperlink leading to the certified pre-owned section. In the very same spot, the Lebanese Land Rover web site has an hyperlink leading to the armoured vehicles section. A reflection of a very different reality...
