As part of Mercedes-Benz's 2009 New Years Reception at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), the German premium carmaker presented the 2009 Mercedes E-Class to a crowd of over 650 journalists from around the world.
Mercedes officials say that the updated E-Class is engineered to deliver top levels of safety and comfort alongside a fuel consumption reduction of up to 23 percent. Shoppers can expect some high-end options like an ATTENTION ASSIST system, Adaptive High Beam Assistant and automatic emergency braking.
The E-Class also features a stiffer body structure, available air suspension and power from a six or eight cylinder engine. The automaker's celebrated BlueTEC diesel engine will be available as well.
"The new E-Class is the safest, most comfortable and cleanest E-Class ever. It is yet further evidence that fascination and responsibility go hand-in-hand at Mercedes," commented Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars at the exclusive preview presentation. "We are certain that the new E-Class will send a positive signal for the 2009 automotive year, and will be among the winners in the global market."
Further details on the new E-Class will be released closer to it's on sale date.
