From a simple V6 to a snorting twin-turbocharged V8, the Porsche Cayenne SUV offers something for nearly any buyer.

That offering has now expanded to those customers interested in clean diesel power. Porsche has just announced that production has started on the 'not-for-North America' Cayenne Diesel at its Leipzig plant. The capable and sporty SUV will boast an optimized mileage and power equation by way of a new diesel engine.

Power comes from an Audi-sourced three liter turbo V6 that will generate 240 horsepower while turning in consumption figures averaging just over 9 liters per 100 km.

Aided by a fuel-sipping six-speed tiptronic gearbox, the diesel powered Cayenne will emit C02 at a rate of just 244 grams per kilometer while delivering athletic performance and instant throttle response. Torque output is rated at a muscular 550 Newton Meters. That's German for about 406 lb.-ft.

The Cayenne diesel is set to go on sale in various markets later this winter and expand the Cayenne product line to seven total models. North American shoppers interested in a clean-diesel powered SUV can check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Diesel, BMW X5 xDrive35d and Mercedes-Benz ML 320 Bluetec.
