Saying that the Ford Ranger has been around is a bit of an understatement-- but the proven small truck sells well to shoppers after an affordable and reliable hard worker. The Ranger's underlying platform has been unchanged for years, though Ford continues to freshen the Ranger with updates to keep things new and competitive.

Said updates for 2010 focus on safety-- and most notably, Ranger now includes AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) as standard. This rollover-mitigating stability control system is a segment exclusive that helps keep drivers and occupants safe.

"The 2010 Ranger's Roll Stability Control and combination side air bag technologies will help occupants stay out of harm's way," said Steve Kozak, chief engineer of safety systems, Ford Motor Company. "The Ranger has been America's most fuel-efficient pickup, and now it features a combination of safety features not offered in any other small pickup."

A side airbag system is also standard for the 2010 model year, using what Ford calls a 'combination' side airbag for head and torso protection. Four wheel ABS brakes, front airbags, seat-belt pretensioners and a front-passenger sensing system for the airbags.
