With the "Express Yourself" contest, French automaker Renault challenged students to design original posters to promote road safety in France. The 2008 edition of the competition saw an exciting final that included seven middle schools from all over the country. And this year, students were particularly creative.
After much deliberation, the jury awarded the first prize to the 4.2 class of Saint Aubin en Bray's College Les Fontainettes. Their poster shows the "Flower Road", with a huge funeral wreath on a road sign. Families and friends of road crash victims often put flowers on the site as a reminder of the tragedy that took place. However, "too many flowers is not a good sight".
Renault will be showing the poster as part of an advertising campaign in a variety of medias. The top three finalists will also be printed as post cards and distributed during the French road safety week, in October 2008.
The "Express Yourself" contest is sponsored by the "Safety for All" program, launched in 2000. Twenty-three countries and more than 10 million children, teenagers and young drivers are targeted by this campaign. In all, over 34,000 students will have learned about road safety in France thanks to Renault's initiative.
