Anyone thinking the Hyundai Genesis coupe isn't sleek or powerful enough will have reason to give the model a second look at the 2009 SEMA show.
Since before it was available for public purchase, the Korean automaker has worked with aftermarket companies, to explore the potential of their rear-drive Genesis. This time, they've teamed up with Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) and Tuner School to turn the 300-plus rocket into a 500-horsepower beast. According to HPE president John Hennessey, the Genesis Coupe was an ideal platform from which to create such a vehicle. “The Genesis Coupe architecture is the ideal platform for tuners looking to make everyday modifications to their vehicles-- and our students at the Tuner School took full advantage” he said. “The visually stunning complete carbon fiber matte black wrap and high-end performance benchmarks create a monster SEMA car.” The car is wrapped in carbon fibre and has a high-end european look. Of course, nothing shouts ultimate performance these days like a matte-finish paint job-- so the Hennessey Genesis Carbon Coupe doesn't have any shine to speak of. Of course, on the road, nobody would be spending much time looking at it anyhow. Various engine modifications including a custom turbocharger, wastegate and fuel-delivery system see this jacked-up Genesis shred the quarter mile in just 12.5 seconds after a 3.9 second run to 100 km/h. The Hennessey Genesis Carbon Coupe was built as a joint effort between HPE and the Tuner School founded by Hennessey. Tuner School is a 3.5 month program that teaches its students the secrets to success in the high-performance automotive aftermarket. It's a one of a kind opportunity -- and in this case, it's created a one-of-a-kind car.
