MISSISSAUGA, ON, - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced pricing for the all-new 2010 Outback. The fourth generation of the Outback is roomier and more capable - moving this versatile vehicle outside the scope of easy categorization just as the first Outback did 15 years ago. Distinguished by bolder and crisper styling, the all-new 2010 Subaru Outback delivers enhanced performance, comfort, and fuel economy with the introduction of an all-new chassis and the new Subaru Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Capability is enhanced with a segment-first swing-out roof rail and crossbar design and more ground clearance.
The new Outback is available with two engines and a variety of packages:
- the entry-level 2.5i PZEV is equipped with Subaru's potent 170 horsepower boxer engine, which can be mated to either the new 6-speed manual transmission or the Lineartronic CVT. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2.5i PZEV is $28,995 with the manual transmission and $30,195 with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
- the Outback 2.5i Sport retails for $31,795 with the manual transmission, and $32,995 with the CVT. The 2.5i Sport may be further enhanced with a Limited package of options, and a new Multimedia option package may be added to the 2.5i Sport Limited.
- the 3.6R Outback gets a new 3.6-litre, 6-cylinder engine for 2010 that produces 256 horsepower and uses regular-grade fuel. MSRP for the new 3.6R starts at $35,695, and this model may also be equipped with the Limited and Multimedia option packages.
"This new Outback builds significantly on the model's well-deserved reputation for go-anywhere capability combined with lively performance and stable handling under all kinds of driving conditions," said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president and CEO of SCI. "The new Outback will only enhance the model's image with extra performance, more room and refinement, and even more effective occupant protection."
One important new convenience is voice-activated mobile phone integration technology for clear communications and hands-free safety and convenience. On the Outback 3.6R and Sport, voice-activated Blueconnect eliminates the need for a handheld cell phone, a headset, earpiece, or in-vehicle mounted handset adapter while making or receiving phone calls. Blueconnect automatically recognizes a paired Bluetooth phone when the vehicle is started. After pairing the phone(s) with the system, owners need only place their cell phone anywhere in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. It will automatically connect or transmit to the Blueconnect unit every time it is on, charged, and within range (approximately 10 metres).
An additional level of convenience is added to models equipped with the Multimedia Package with touch screen navigation display. In this system, voice-activated Bluetooth technology displays incoming calls from the compatible cell phone on the navigation monitor. Calls can be accessed either through the touch screen monitor, controls on the steering wheel, or via voice activation.
