One of the surprises at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show comes from Japanese manufacturer Suzusho. Called "Supasse V," this little two-seater features scissor doors, a lightweight unibody chassis and exclusive suspensions developed by the company’s head honcho, Toshio Suzuki, with the help of his two sons.
The race car driver turned automotive craftsman is well known in Japan. Since 2000, he has been designing car body kits and replicas of the Caterham (Lotus) Super 7 bearing the name "Supasse C." The Supasse V, however, is not just a body kit. Similar in size to the Lotus Exige, the stylish bodywork was penned by designer Kenji Mimura. It reminds us of the Le Mans-spec 2007 Dome S102. The 2.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood is derived from a Mazdaspeed3 and teams up with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine is mounted on a rear sub-frame bolted to the main structure and therefore offers easy access. According to Suzusho, the Supasse V is the closest thing on the road that is equal to a competitive racing car like the ones at Le Mans. With a net weight of 850 kilos and 264 horsepower on tap, how can you argue? Photos: Tokyo Motor Show et Suzusho
