Campagna Motors announced today that it is partnering with OptaMotive to compete in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize. With a prize purse of over $10 million, this competitive American race is designed to inspire the development of super fuel-efficient vehicles. The partnership's objective is to build a commercially viable and appealing vehicle capable of getting the equivalent of 2.35 litres per 100 km or less (100 miles per gallon or more) while maintaining the performance of a race car!
OptaMotive's entry will use the T-Rex as the basis on which to create an electric version of this unique motor vehicle. OptaMotive team leader Mark Demers believes that: "The T-Rex is the perfect vehicle for our project because of its light weight and compact chassis design."
With head offices in both Stittsville, Ontario, and San Jose, Californie OptaMotive strives at becoming the company that will "bring a pure battery electric vehicle competing in the alternative class to the apex of engineering design excellence and consumer attraction."
Campagna Motors will hand over an engineless T-Rex to the OptaMotive team at The Guy Show being held in Ottawa on April 25 and 26. André Morissette, President of Boucherville-based company, states: "This is a unique opportunity for the OptaMotive team to evaluate the adaptation potential of the T-Rex to an electric motor and to promote an environmentally sustainable technology."
