Customers who ordered a new 2008 Tesla can rejoice as the company just began deliveries of its famous electric roadster.
Twelve units have been shipped to California last week. Right now, the plant is manufacturing four vehicles per week. By December of this year, production capacity is expected to increase to a pace of 100 units per month.
Tesla Motors has only one dealership, although a second will soon open in Silicon Valley in order to meet the increasingly strong demand. Retail outlets are also planned for New York City, Chicago, Miami and Seattle.
In production trim, the Tesla roadster uses a single-speed transmission instead of a two-speed unit as originally announced. As a result, acceleration times from 0 to 100 km/h are significantly slower though still very impressive (5.7 seconds). All this at a little over $100,000 USD.
