After two years of hype and speculation, fans and the media alike will finally get their first official look at the production versions of the co-developed Toyota FT-86 and Subaru BRZ at the Tokyo Motor Show next month.
External differences between the pair will remain subtle and centre around different wheel designs and small changes to the front grille.
Under the hood, however, expect very different outputs for the 2.0-litre, flat-4 engine. A Subaru-spec ECU will put the BRZ at just under 300 horsepower, while the FT-86 will boast 200 horsepower.
What's more, each model will weigh approximately 2,425 pounds. One of the main competitors, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, is a solid 800-lb heavier in its most basic trim.
Equipped with a limited-slip differential and sport-tuned suspension, both the BRZ and FT-86 should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6.0 seconds.
