The folks at MINI have been busy updating their popular Convertible, and the fruits of their labor were on display at this week's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

BMW says the revised model gets various updates to packaging, safety and styling while leaving its cheeky personality unchanged. Fans of the Mini lineup noted the model's subtle size increase and various evolutionary styling updates. The look is still very pleasing to fans of the model though- as smiles and stories were abundant around the stand.

The MINI Convertible's interior has also been updated, and now includes various materials and colors allowing buyers to customize their own atmosphere within. Apparently, as many as 16 chrome trim pieces can be installed for accenting. A navigation system is available too- alongside a standard 'Always Open' roof timer that tracks accumulated open-air driving time.

Shoppers can expect a suite of premium entertainment and convenience features alongside more safety and spaciousness than the outgoing model. Power comes from a 1.6 liter engine with 118 horsepower in the standard model, while the "S" designated machine gets a turbocharger for 172 horsepower.

"Like its predecessor, the new MINI Convertible combines all the exciting elements of the current MINI hatch models with the exhilaration of open-air motoring.", stated Stephen McDonnell, Director of MINI Canada, adding: "The most sophisticated MINI Convertible yet is poised to continue the popularity of this model, offering exceptional performance, safety, economy and unprecedented fun-factor."

The updated Mini Cooper Convertible is expected on sale this spring.
