Good news for Volvo fans! The Swedish automaker known for its world-class safety technology will hire 200 workers in Sweden through March to meet an expected rise in demand.
With this addition, the workforce at the Gothenburg assembly plant will increase to 3,400 workers. Production capacity will jump from 48 to 52 vehicles per hour.
Volvo spokesman Per-Ake Froberg said : ''We want to be prepared as we expect higher demand next year.''
The company aims to finish 2010 with sales of about 380,000 vehicles.
Its new president and CEO, Stefan Jacoby, previously stated that he wants to increase sales to 800,000 cars within 10 years. He also told the media about his desire to move the Volvo brand slightly downscale in accordance with the philosophy of its new owner, China's Geely.
