BMW announced that the Vision ConnectedDrive roadster, which showcases the automaker's latest design and technological advancements, will make its first global appearance at the Geneva Motor Show from March 3 to 13, 2011.
Designers used a three-layer principle for the interior – comfort, infotainment and safety – to highlight the interaction between the driver, passenger, vehicle and surrounding environment.
These three layers mean that the various components and systems that make up the vehicle have to play multiple roles. For instance, the headlights and taillights feature sensors that collect traffic data to help users make safe driving decisions.
According to BMW, the Vision ConnectedDrive concept embodies its EfficientDynamics design language with a long wheelbase and hood, a recessed cockpit, taut surfaces and organic lines that suggest motion even when the car is stationary.
Inside, 3D head-up display allows both the driver and passenger to read and analyze vehicle data, manage music files and view navigation maps. They can also share that information at the touch of a button.
In BMW Z1 fashion, the roadster is said to be using vertically sliding doors.
