Starworks Motorsport’s Ryan Dalziel puts his Riley-Ford on pole position for the Daytona 24.
The Scot clocked a lap in 1min41.119s, which earned him and his teammates Allan McNish, Lucas Luhr, Alex Popow and Enzo Potolicchio the first spot on the grid for round 1 of the 2012 Grand-Am season.
It was a considerable achievement by the whole team, bearing in mind their Riley-Ford blew an engine in the opening practice session.
"It's just an incredible job these guys have done to put the car together in such a short amount of time. Just with everything that has gone on the past few days for us, to get the pole is very rewarding," Dalziel said on SpeedTV.com.

In GT, Andrew Davis accomplished the same feat as Dalziel, and claimed pole for the benefit of Brumos Porsche and fellow drivers Marc Lieb, Leh Keen and Hurley Haywood. He banged in a lap in 1min49.342s, aboard his No. 59 Porsche 911.
"That was an intense session," Davis said. "I just pushed as hard as I could from the first lap out. We struggled the first couple of sessions, so this is very unexpected. But it shows, the same thing as last year, with Brumos Racing, that they never stop fighting."
The No. 69 Ferrari 458 of Aim Autosport lines up second, thanks to a 1min49.357s lap produced by Jeff Segal.
