Detroit, Michigan — At this year’s NAIAS, American tuning specialist Saleen unveiled not a real-world product but rather a virtual one. And despite not having any wheels or engine, it could make as much noise as a supercharged V8!

What is it? Just a new mobile application for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

For more than a quarter century, Saleen Performance Vehicles has been known the world over for its limited-edition, high-performance cars (mainly Mustangs). The software it’s now releasing on the web will become a new entry point to the brand’s amazing range of products, according to a company spokesman.

Developed by Control-Tec LLC, this app is available through iTune and targets not only Saleen owners but also every other car and performance enthusiast with an Apple device in their hands.

Users have access to a myriad of information, pictures and data on past and present Saleen models. A unique configuration tool even makes it possible to create and view your dream Saleen with the wheels and colors of your choice.

Wait, there’s more! Fans can experience the powerful sounds of Saleen engines thanks to a number of audio files. I guess iTune is not just about music after all!

Information on this app can be shared at any time with your friends via the Internet. The Speedlab catalogue of high-performance parts for Saleen engines, bodies, brakes and suspensions is also available online. Lastly, you can contact any Saleen dealer across the continent (none in Canada yet).

To download Version 1.0 of this free app, simply visit the iTune website at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id347857894?mt=8.

Version 2.0 is already being developed. A new function will allow users to record vehicle performance in real time with an Apple mobile device. However, pricing has yet to be announced.

The launch of this app by Saleen comes just as the brand is redesigning its own website, www.saleen.com.
