Rookie Maxim Lemoine wows the crowd
Check the resultsfirst round in Montmagny, the 2013 Drift Mania Canadian Championship resumed this weekend in St-Eustache in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators. And what a show it was! The top 8 drivers from the Pro Am Class joined professional drift racers from all over North America for a high-octane competition.

25 make it to the main event
Twenty-five out of 30 drivers who had registered for Round 2 qualified for the finals. Mike Pollard earned the highest score, followed by Maxim Lemoine. Marc Landreville, and Pat Cyr, respectively. Landreville and Cyr posted the exact same score, but the former got the edge with an entry speed of 124 km/h vs. 122 km/h for the latter. Claude Poirier took the 5th spot.

Action-filled Top 32
With the experience level varying a lot from one contestant to the next, some interesting battles took place. Heck, the judges kept requesting encores throughout the night.

When it came to the Top 8, Pollard and Alex Michaud impressed by covering the venue under a massive cloud of smoke (the latter advanced). Later, in the Top 4, Lemoine trumped Dave Briggs as the two went neck-and-neck during their entire duel.

In another spectacular battle, Cyr and Michaud successively lost control of their cars, but the Ontario legend finally made it to the last race.

Lemoine dominates his idol
After Michaud beat Briggs to wind up in 3rd place and earn the $2,000 prize, fans were treated to a rare sight: a mistake by Cyr. Lemoine seized the opportunity, and climbed on top of the podium. The Pro Class rookie from the Quebec City area won $10,000, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, several drivers ran into mechanical problems including Jeff Laflamme, defending champ Marc Landreville, Jessy Gaudy, and Bob Patinka.

Round 3 will take place in Ste-Croix on July 6-7th.
