Using the very popular LX platform that underpins the 300, Magnum and Charger, DaimlerChrysler created what will be the next muscle car from the Mopar garage. By shortening the existing chassis of about 4 inches for improved handling dynamics, the new Challenger should prove to be the most nimble of the bunch. Obviously, anything less than a V8 under the hood would be blasphemy. Therefore, the HEMI will definitely be a shoe-in. Better still, the 6.1L 425 hp V8 from the SRT8 street monsters will only make the Challenger more desirable. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission for optimal control. The line-up, which is only expected in the 2008 model year will include other engines found with the LX platform cars such as the 250 hp 3.5L V6.
