"There's an autocross course where participants can get familiar with the car's handling, balance (the 1-Series boasts a 50/50 weight distribution), engine and transmission response as well as braking performance, explains the chief instructor. The second course allows them to fully appreciate two advanced technologies developed by BMW, namely Active Steering and Dynamic Stability Control."

BMW Canada has been conducting similar tests since 1996. "The company is a true pioneer in this field," adds Mr. Savoy.

Already in showrooms!
"With a program like 1ntensity, it's now possible to demystify a new model that's as unique as the 1-Series, says Saladin Karl. After all, these machines might be our new entry-level models, but they're just as loaded with features. Each one offers all the technological advancements people have come to expect from BMWs. The company's DNA is clearly present in every single one of them."

The 2008 BMW 1-Series arrived in Canadian showrooms on March 22. Upon writing these lines, the 128i and 135i coupes started at $33,900 and $41,700, respectively. Meanwhile, the 128i and 135i cabriolets retailed for $39,900 and $47,200.
