The BMW M3 DTM cars, which will count in number of six next year with the RBM, Schnitzer and Reinhold teams in the German touring car championship, has been given a private roll-out in front of employees on the manufacturer's test circuit yesterday.

"Obviously it is a very special occasion when a new car such as the BMW M3 DTM drives out of the garage for the first time," said BMW Motorsport director, Jens Marquardt.

"For that reason we invited our personnel to see the car in action out in the open. Every member of our team has worked extremely hard towards this day. This marks yet another step towards our first race in 2012."

Marquardt, despite confirming the roll-out car will be the one unveiled on July 15, in Munich, hinted at a visually different car on the 2012 grid.

"The roll-out car will give a first taste of what our 2012 challenger will look like, but we expect a lot to change visually on the car before the first race", he explained.

Meanwhile the new director, who replaces Mario Theissen at the head of BMW's motorsport division, has promised that there will be no major changes to the brand's racing programms.

As far as his opinion goes on returning to the series for the first time since 1992, he doesn't seem too worried.

"Audi and Mercedes have an advantage over us in experience," he said. "But we have a strong team and have been working in a very efficient way to make up the gap."
