German car manufacturer Audi announced Monday morning that new DTM series' champion Martin Tomczyk would no longer compete for Audi in 2012.

Not mentioning a word about the future of Tomczyk, the press release says “DTM Champion Martin Tomczyk seeks a new sporting challenge”.

"I won the Championship for Audi after eleven years together. Despite this joint success, and after careful consideration, I have now decided to accept a new challenge,” said the 29-year-old German driver.

Several sources suggest that Tomczyk will join BMW and be Bruno Spengler's teammate (Spengler raced for Mercedes until he was signed by BMW).

How Audi will line up in the DTM next year will be decided over the forthcoming weeks. Audi currently plans to contest the DTM 2012 with a maximum of seven cars.
