I'm an emotional guy. Yup, not a very manly thing to admit, but I can't help it. I came off the assembly line this way, much like a 6-speed Camaro SS gets a 426-hp V8 whether it wants to or not.

I don't recall being as emo when I was 10 years old, but now that I'm 35 I can get a little out of hand, especially when it comes to cars. Because it's all about cars. As a kid, I had the mandatory Ferrari F40, Ford GT90 and Porsche 911 Turbo posters. They were what I wanted most in the world – those and a Huffy BMX bike. I eventually got the Huffy, but still don't have an F40. I did come close though...

Recently, and thanks to my good friend Philippe Letourneau, I was introduced to the ultra-hip bunch who run the Supercar Challenge. These cool cats have managed to get their hands on the modern equivalents (or close approximations) of the F40, GT90 and 911 Turbo and call them their own, or just about. Better than that, they're willing to share! There is a god for the hopeless car-nut.

First, I got a private message on Facebook followed by a phone call, and before I knew it I was behind the wheel of a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia at the Circuit du Mont Tremblant, on the back straight, doing 225 km/h and wishing for everything else in the world to disappear, leaving me with cars and an endless supply of petrol! The 458 is blessedly good.

However, that's not really the point of this blog. Although it has to do with cars, it's more about karma and bridges. Karma is about paying it forward; giving and not expecting to receive anything in return. Treating others better than you think you should be treated. Hey, what goes around really does come around. Bridges – not Canadian crumbling infrastructures – are contacts or friends that, if the karma is good, will in time turn out to be some of the most valuable people in your entourage. I told you I was emo.

I was given the opportunity to experience a childhood dream because of some friendly strangers, or quite nearly (nice to see you again Sonia!), and now it's my turn to thank them.

There is far more good in this world than we realize, it's just that we always talk about and report on the bad.

Supercars and music will heal the world!
