An electric/hybrid prototype will take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2013.

2012 marks the race debut of a revolution in racing: the DeltaWing.

The car is a rethink of the sport. Everything was done to use less resources – less fuel, less tire, less car. To encourage the initiative, 24 Hours of Le Mans organizers have granted the people behind the DeltaWing an entry for the 2012 edition.

They are doing the same thing for a similar project next year, the Green GT H2, which was unveiled recently at a test venue ahead of the 24-hour race.

In fact, at Green GT, the plan is to take part in a full World Endurance Championship (WEC) next year. So the 24 Hours of Le Mans are on the radar.

What makes the H2 special is its hybrid system, which utilizes electric and hydrogen technologies – the car is 100% clean. It puffs nothing but air and water.

It is powered by two 170 kW engines, producing a total of 460 horsepower. Top speed is estimated at 300 km/h.

The Green GT H2 only has a 40-minute autonomy for the moment, but designers are working on improving the situation ahead of the first race.
