2011 was a tough year for everyone but Red Bull. At Ferrari – the most successful team of all-time – the pressure is piling up to recapture past glory. The same pressure applies to the drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

"All the ingredients are in place to start winning again," confirmed di Montezemolo on Autosport.com.

As per use in team sports, the blame cannot be put one individuals. Winning in Formula One rests on the engineers’ shoulders as much as on the drivers’.

"I want to be optimistic, because I can see the concentration and the attention to detail which characterizes the efforts being made by [Stefano] Domenicali and his people, by [Pat] Fry, [Luca] Marmorini, [Corrado] Lanzone and [Nikolas] Tombazis," said di di Montezemolo."

While the engineers are working hard at the factory to improve all the areas they can – design of the car, simulation work, pitstops, starts… –, the two drivers try to involve themselves in the life of the team as much as possible.

"What I like about our drivers is their ability to work with the team: I knew that about Felipe and it was a pleasant surprise to find out the same applied to Fernando. I don't like drivers who turn up at the track with their briefcase and do not share in the daily life of the team: they are not Ferrari people."

Will being ‘Ferrari people’ be enough for Massa to retain his seat to the pole-pular Robert Kubica, set to test a Ferrari once his recovery is complete?

"Felipe knows next year is very important for him, but it is up to us to give him a competitive car. If we manage it, then I am sure we will rediscover the Felipe who delivered so much and who could be quicker than Michael [Schumacher] and Kimi [Raikkonen]."
