The Ford Motor Company has settled its lawsuit against Italian car manufacturer Ferrari for trademark infringement of its popular F-150 pickup, one of their best-selling models in the United States.

The Detroit based automaker said Ferrari improperly used the name F150 for its new Formula 1 race car when it filed the lawsuit on Feb. 9.

That resulted in the American manufacturer filing papers with the US District Court in Detroit asking for Ferrari to be barred from using the name and seeking unspecified damages.

The following day, Ferrari said it would discontinue the usage of the F150 name and logo and would only use the full formal name of the race car, which is “Ferrari F150th Italia” to mark the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

The automaker filed a notice with U.S. District Court in Detroit today asking the judge to dismiss the case three weeks after suing Ferrari. The notice didn’t disclose any additional details.

Ford spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari told the Detroit Free Press: "We are pleased we were able to resolve this issue amicably. This resolution ensures that Ford's famous and distinctive F-150 trademark will be protected."

UPDATE
Hours later the news was released, Ferrari made a further adjustment to the chassis name of its 2011 Formula 1 car. saying the chassis will now be known as the Ferrari 150° Italia.
