British driver Jenson Button and the newly born Brawn GP have caused a major shocker today Wednesday in day 3 of the pre-season testing at Barcelona, Spain.

Button drove a stunning lap around the Spanish track at the wheel of the BGP001-Mercedes, smashing by one second the best time set so far.

It is quite evident that the Brawn car was in qualifying trim with very little fuel in the tank. Nevertheless, it is a stunning accomplishment for a team that was officially created just a few days ago.

Button also completed 124 laps of the track, demonstrating the excellent reliability of the car.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa ranked second, albeit one full second behind Button.

Robert Kubica (BMW-Sauber) was 3rd, ahead of Timo Glock (Toyota) and Fernando Alonso (Renault).

Sébastien Buemi (Toro Rosso-Ferrari) completed 140 laps of the Barcelona circuit (record) and set the 9th fastest time.

Team McLaren and Lewis Hamilton were again disappointing. The reigning World Champion was 10th and last, and spun in Turn 2, hitting the tire barriers. The team admitted working on a new aero package.
