“We’ve had an excellent day with Jules - he really stepped up to the task in hand and continued to impress all of us. The set-up programme went very smoothly and we focussed on trying to learn more about the car and how to extract more performance. We ran on the hard, medium and soft compounds and completed both long and short runs,” said Jakob Andreasen, chief engineer at Force India.

Briton Sam Bird was second quickest in the Mercedes AMG W03. Bird and the team continued to evaluate the latest developments for the W03 on a second day. Mercedes AMG have used the Pirelli soft tire so far in the test, and will switch to the hard compound tomorrow.

Davide Rigon completed over 700 kilometres today at the wheel of the Ferrari F2012, making his debut with the Maranello team at an official test. In the morning the focus was on aerodynamic measurements and in the afternoon, it switched to set-up testing, aimed at checking the correlation between these two areas and the work carried out in the simulator.

The young driver test will end tomorrow.
