British motorsport publication says that Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli starts today to test its new Formula 1 tires at Mugello in Italy.

Bridgestone will pull out of F1 at the end of the current season and will be replaced by Pirelli as the official tire supplier of Formula 1.

Autosport mentions that Pirelli has hired the Cologne-based Toyota Motorsport to run a 2009-specification Toyota TF109 to perform the initial tests.

German driver Nick Heidfeld, Mercedes GP reserve driver is expected to drive the Toyota during the two days of the test.

The TF109 chassis is not the car that Stefan GP intended to enter in this year’s F1 World Championship but the car Toyota raced in 2009.

Autosport understands that Pirelli is using a 2009 Toyota after a recommendation from the FOTA, which saw the TF109 as the only car available that was both relevant to current F1 machinery and not affiliated with any current team.
