Formula one teams may request an extension to the May 29 deadline for official 2010 entries, it emerged after qualifying for the Monaco grand prix.

In the paddock of the famous street circuit on Saturday, representatives of all the teams met yet again, this time in the Toyota motor home.

Entries for 2010 opened officially on Friday, and are now set to close in less than a week.

It is rumoured that hard-liners like Ferrari and Toyota are prepared to miss the deadline, but others including BMW and McLaren-Mercedes may be concerned about being locked out of next year's grid over the political melee.

They are considering whether to ask for an extension to the May 29 deadline, after many figures were buoyed by the progress made this weekend.

"That's what we will discuss in the next meeting, what to do then in that situation," BMW-Sauber team boss Mario Theissen confirmed.
