Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed on Wednesday that Ferrari will play a more active role in engine development for Alfa Romeo, similar to what it did for Maserati.

Marchionne hopes to return the Alfa Romeo brand to its former glory by offering attractive sporty models that will compete on the global scene with premium makes such as Audi.

The plan is to develop a new V6 similar to the 410-horsepower unit that motivates the current Maserati Quattroporte.

Details of the agreement between Ferrari and Fiat-Chrysler will be disclosed at some point during the next few weeks.
