Under the guise of enhanced “VIP Customer Care Coverage,” Fisker has announced it will replace batteries in its 2012 Karmas. Its high-voltage battery supplier, A123 Systems, discovered a latent manufacturing defect in some prismatic cells made at its Livonia, Mich., facility that could result in underperformance and decreased durability.
Fisker will also extend its full vehicles warranties from 50 months/50,000 miles to 60 months/60,000 miles.
Fisker says it had been working closely with A123 Systems on a high-voltage battery power loss experienced in a Karma belonging to Consumer Reports.
Fisker has delivered more than 630 Karmas to North American and European customers since they went on sale at the end of 2011. Fisker says it will work with distributors, retailers and customers to communicate the details of the battery exchange program.
