It's been around since 2001, and has enjoyed the title of best-selling small SUV for the past six years. Little has changed today, where the Escape still leads the segment which has roughly doubled in size since its introduction.

Ford got the Escape bang-on right, right off the bat: offering what customers were looking for as well as their legendary truck quality built into every unit.

The American Carmaker attributes part of the success to its adoption of a wide and solid stance, high ground clearance, lightweight construction and an advanced automatic all wheel drive system. The Escape can tow up to 3,500 lbs and was even subjected to extensive cold weather testing in Manitoba to ensure it would be well matched to the Canadian climate.

It also offered a model to match any need- with four or six cylinder power, front or all wheel drive and even a gas-sipping hybrid model which was introduced in 2004.

Cisco Codina, VP of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford says "Escape offers refined ride and go-anywhere capability; impressive fuel economy and up to 3,500 pounds of towing; and a comfortable interior in a compact, agile package. And Escape keeps getting better, as we will show at the LA auto show."

He's referring to the 2008 model, which he will unveil in late November at the Greater Los Angeles Autoshow.
