It seems like a tough battle between the Dodge Ram and the Ford F-150, both totally redesigned for 2009.
The latest round in the head-to-head grudge match goes to the F-150 for claiming Motor Trend Magazine's "Truck of the Year" honours.
At the end of October, the Ram outscored the Ford by a small margin to become the AJAC's "Best New Pickup Truck" for 2009.
Yet some achievements Ford and Dodge are taunting are more or less head-scratchers.
A couple of months ago, the F-150 was named the "Truck of Texas", but in a matter of hours, the Dodge Ram was promptly named the "Full-size Pickup Truck of Texas". We wonder which one is better.
The F-150 is also the "Best Redesigned Vehicle" and the "Best Overall Half-Ton Pickup", and has been handed an "Automotive Excellence" award, a "Residual Value" award as well as an "Accessory-Friendly Truck" award.
On the other hand, the Dodge has received recognitions such as "Editor's Most Wanted 2009" and "Editor's Choice - Truck of the Year".
More importantly, though, the Dodge Ram has received a 5-star rating by the U.S. Government for frontal impacts; the Ford F-150 has not yet been tested. However, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the F-150 a "Top Safety Pick" for 2009, and the Ram hasn't been rated yet.
We're waiting impatiently for the next round.
