Large glass roofs have grown in popularity in the order of about 200 percent in less than five years, and Ford's about to capitalize on the trend. Although largely the realm of crossover SUV's, the oversized sunroof has become increasingly popular in sedans, hatchbacks and coupes- like the Mustang.
Now, for half the price of moving into a convertible model, customers can specify the glass roof option, allowing the rays into the vehicle's cabin while meeting a growing desire for more natural light in vehicles. It's a feature to make increasingly lengthy commutes a little more bearable, and it will be available for model-year 2009 and beyond on both V6 and GT coupe models.
"Mustang is an icon in our product lineup, and we are committed to keeping Mustang news fresh every year," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's vice president of Global Product Development. "As the automotive landscape becomes increasingly competitive, features such as a panoramic glass roof will help differentiate our products from the competition."
Good timing too- as over 60 percent of those surveyed indicated a desire to have a sunroof in their next vehicle.
