It’s hoped the revised 2020 edition will improve sales of the big sedan

The Genesis brand’s first few years have been very successful, especially in terms of the number of awards its cars have garnered. But while the G70 has found its market and the G80 is performing respectively, few buyers have been tempted by the company’s flagship G90 sedan.

Certainly, any product with the mandate of competing against big - and big-time – luxury sedans like the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S Class is going to have a rough go of it. Genesis has in fact done the only thing it could do, which is offer more for less.

For 2020, Genesis has lightly redrawn the model’s line, continuing the fine-tuning it started with the model last year. Most notably, the front end gets a new design for the quadruple headlights, and that design figures to be the new visual signature for the Genesis brand. The back end has been extensively redesigned, with the rear lights presented with the idea of evoking the brand’s logo’s wings. It’s an improvement over the previous design that most found to have missed the mark.

Inside, Genesis has also brought some needed changes. The number of commands has been reduced to simplify the user experience. The quality of the materials has been upgraded, including as it applies to the seats, dashboard, central console and wood accents.

The multimedia system gets a new interface, quicker-response touch controls and a function that allows for splitting the screen to show different data. An advanced connectivity system that enables remote communication has also been introduced.

In terms of safety, the list of included functions is comprehensive. Take note that the 2020 G90 comes in on iteration only, the everything-included G90 5.0. As the name indicates, the model is powered by a 5.0L V8 that can deliver up to 420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. By special order consumers can order a configuration with a 365-hp 3.3L engine. The powertrain includes an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Pricing for the G90 is set at $89,750 CAD, and that price includes all purchase fees including transport and preparation. Five years of maintenance is included as well, as is a home concierge service.
