Thanks to a partnership announced between General Motors and Powermat, the days of traipsing various power cords around to charge your electronic devices are at an end.

GM Ventures, a subsidiary of the American automaker responsible for investments and venture capital, has decided to invest 5 million USD in Powermat to accelerate the development of a final product. The charging system will first be found in the Volt, followed by the other Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac models by mid-2012.

Powermat’s product is already available in retail stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart and is compatible with a little over a hundred electronic devices. Using the Powermat is simple: you simply plug the mat into a power source, add the appropriate adaptor and place your device on the mat.
