The Oshawa truck assembly plant will build GM's new two-mode hybrid pickup trucks, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, which will go on sale for 2008. It's the first plant in Canada to produce hybrid vehicles.

The automaker is quick to point out that it offers consumers a complete lineup of green vehicles to help reduce their fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The federal government will invest in green technologies at the Oshawa facilities, where environmental responsibilities are taken seriously -- whether it's hybrid, flex-fuel or fuel cell vehicles.

Compared to the single-mode system used by the competition, GM's patented Two-Mode system maximizes fuel efficiency. It will soon power the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid and GMC Yukon Hybrid, scheduled for release in the 2007 model-year. Thusly equipped, the trucks will achieve a 25-percent reduction in fuel consumption. Next year, the Saturn VUE Green Line will receive the technology and offer a 45-percent higher fuel economy.
