GP2: Romain Grosjean and Stefano Coletti first season winners

Romain Grosjean and Stefano Coletti took a win each in the two opening rounds of the GP2 season in Istanbul.



After he clinched pole position, Grosjean led race 1 from start to finish. But the Frenchman, recently crowned champion in the GP2 Asia series, had to defend his position duting the last lap against Sam Bird, who was really flying in the closing laps of the race.

Grosjean went wide on the last lap, but he was able to keep first position, while Sam Bird crossed the line only 0,3 seconds behind him. Ferrari test driver Jules Bianchi took third position.

Fabio Leimer had a big crash in the first lap, but was not injured, when his car rolled several times after a collision.

In race 2, Stefano Coletti moved up to first position during the first laps, then cruised away at the front. The Italian driver thought he had the race won, but the Safety Car came into action with just a few laps to go after a big accident between Davide Rigon and Julian Leal.

At the restart, Coletti had to defend his first position against Giedo Van der Garde, but the Dutch could not find the opening. Sam Bird took third place, after he overtook Charles Pic in the last corner.

Jules Bianchi spun in the first lap after he was hit by Romain Grosjean. Bianchi droped down to 23rd position, before he eventually moved up to 7th. Grosjean had to change his front wing, at took 10th position at the end of the race.

Davide Rigon suffers from multiple fractures to his tibia and fibula, and has undergone surgery following his crash. His car hit the pitwall heavily after being pushed out by Julian Leal in the middle of start/finish line.
