Audi has released some important numbers pertaining to its race across the continental U.S. undertaken with a fleet of its diesel-powered vehicles. The Audi Mileage Marathon is an exercise in endurance where the goal is to maintain the lowest diesel consumption throughout the event.
Four vehicles chiefly "run" the marathon: the full-size Q7 TDI SUV, the brand-new, compact Q5 TDI SUV, the A4 TDI sedan and the diminutive A3 TDI.
The fuel-efficiency champion of the first two stages is the small A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI, which maintained an impressive 5.11 L/100 km average throughout the first two waves. The average speed hovered around 100 km/h.
The other vehicles also turned in some exemplary fuel consumption numbers. The large Q7 3.0 TDI maintained an average of 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres. As for the Q5, it travelled the same distance on 7.13 litres of diesel, while the A4 sedans averaged 6.03 litres.
For now, the race has covered a total of 4,508 kilometres. The next step will see the Audis trek from Denver, Colorado to Las Vegas, Nevada.
