For the second year in a row, the Marie-Victorin Park in Kingsey Falls, in the Centre-du-Québec region, will host Toyota’s “Rendez-vous des véhicules verts.” In this bucolic setting, the June 13 event will cater to those who are keen to see the development of eco-friendly transport in the province of Quebec. It’s also one of those rare occasions where visitors will get the chance to test drive a few “green” vehicles and attend conferences given by experts in the field.

And this year, the event’s organizers have also included an ecodriving competition. It will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on a track set up in Kingsey Falls’ rural area.

The participants will be evaluated on the fuel-efficiency of their driving habits. Each competitor will take the wheel of the Park’s official vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Prius equipped with a vehicle telemetry system designed by Isaac Instruments. The results compiled by the system will enable the participants to see the impact their driving habits have on the environment. Prizes will be distributed to the three “best” drivers.

CAA-Québec will also be on hand with an ecodriving simulator, allowing visitors to test their eco-friendly driving skills.

Lots of activities
Again this year, visitors will get the chance to experience different “green” transportation solutions, from cars on the Park’s trails to small pleasure boats on the Nicolet river.

Toyota Canada, the event’s sponsor, will be making three hybrid vehicles available, a Prius, Highlander and Camry. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy the quiet experience of the Silence. Built in Quebec, the electric version of the T-Rex can travel up to 200 km/h and has an operating range of 200 to 400 km.

And the small, eco-friendly pleasure boat Photon will undoubtedly be a huge success. Featuring solar-powered accumulators, the craft was designed by engineering students at the École de technologie supérieure in Montreal.

Three guest speakers have also been invited: Pierre Langlois, author of Rouler sans pétrole, Normand Mousseau, physics professor and Canada Research Chair in Computational Physics of Complex Materials at the Université de Montréal, and Sidney Ribaux of Équiterre.

The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Marie-Victorin Park in Kingsey Falls. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $7 for children 6 to 17 years old.
