Federal and provincial ministers to attend PHEV'09

MONTREAL,- Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) president Mike Elwood announced today that Deputy Premier, Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife, and Minister overseeing Plan Nord, Nathalie Normandeau, and Natural Resources Canada Minister Lisa Raitt, will be attending PHEV'09, the conference and trade show devoted to electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids being held September 28-30 in Montreal.

Respective participation by the two cabinet ministers

Minister Lisa Raitt will be at the welcoming reception on September 28 (6:00 to 7:30 p.m.), at which time she will unveil the Electric Vehicle Technology Road Map for Canada. Thierry Vandal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro-Québec, will deliver the closing remarks to cap the September 30 plenary session (3:30 to 4:30 p.m.), accompanied by Mark Dubois-Phillips, senior manager, technology development, BC Hydro.

Minister Nathalie Normandeau will be taking part in the opening plenary session on September 29 (8:30 to 10:00 a.m.), alongside PHEV'09 co-presidents Mike Elwood, the EMC president and vice-president of marketing for Azure Dynamics Inc., and Serge Roy, director - Electric vehicle energy systems, Hydro-Québec, Alan De Souza, member of the City of Montreal Executive Committee, and Bill Moore of EV World.

PHEV'09: cutting-edge and international in scope

"From 2010 to 2012, automobile manufacturers will be bringing out a new generation of vehicles powered by the electric network," stated PHEV'09 co-president Serge Roy. "Specialists from all over the world will be gathering in Montreal, September 28-30, 2009, and this will provide the general public with an opportunity to see the latest technological developments and discuss the tangible measures that need to be taken to ensure their success."

Electric Mobility Canada (EMC), the architect of this major international event, has lined up more than 80 conference speakers from Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia, thereby providing an outstanding program and an unparalleled learning opportunity that addresses the major technical, commercial and political issues surrounding electric mobility.

Program "must-sees"

There is a broad diversity of topics sure to generate plenty of interest. These include, among others:

Monday, September 28

World-renowned experts will address the progress of lithium-ion and other battery chemistries. The issue of the availability of lithium will also be discussed.

Tuesday, September 29

From a technical standpoint, the performance of batteries in extreme conditions will be explored, as will the ability of electric networks to power a large fleet of electric vehicles.

In the business sector, new business models to sell electric vehicles will be discussed.

Wednesday, September 30

The major car manufacturers will unveil the line of electric and plug-in hybrids they will have on the market for Canadians over the next five years.

In the afternoon, the Trade Show on the Grande Place of Complexe Desjardins will be open to the general public.

Major EV manufacturers

Media representatives will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the major EV manufacturers in the industry that are currently selling light-duty (cars and light-duty trucks) and heavy-duty vehicles in Canada.

Light-duty manufacturers: Chrysler, Electrovaya, Ford, Future Vehicle Technologies, General Motors Canada, Nissan, Toyota and Zenn Motor Cars.

Third annual Energy Efficient Vehicle Rally

In conjunction with PHEV'09, there will be the running of the only official alternative energy World Cup rally in North America, the winners of which will be announced at the reception at the Hyatt Regency on the evening of September 29. For further details: www.rallye-alternative.com.
