In accordance with its ecoMOBILITY program, the Canadian government will finance 14 projects in as many municipalities across the country in order to increase its contribution to eco-friendly transportation. The funds, close to three million dollars, will be invested in projects that better meet the needs and living conditions of the municipalities.
These green transportation initiatives will be launched together with the provinces, the municipalities and the local administrations; their goal is to promote public transportation and find alternatives to the automobile.
The ecoMOBILITY program is part of the government's ecoTRANSPORT strategy and has three objectives:
1.Improve the health of citizens and the environment in which they live.
2.Increase Canada's prosperity and competitiveness by way of a sustainable transportation infrastructure.
3.Promote an efficient transportation network.
On a more local scale, the Montreal Metropolitan Area will receive $125,000 to improve its Démarche Allégo program, which provides tools to employers in the private sector that are looking to offer their employees eco-friendly transport options.
