Rinspeed may have come up with a solution for motorists who use their cars in very different situations, such as in the city, where motor power is less important, and on the open road, where better performance is necessary. The Swiss manufacturer is introducing the E2 Concept based on the Fiat 500 Abarth.

The cute little concept makes innovative use of its available power. At the simple touch of a button it changes the applications of the engine's electronic components. The E2 can produce either 60 or 160 hp depending on the driver's needs. Rinspeed created this product to meet the needs of consumers who are highly adaptable to driving conditions.

According to Rinspeed CEO Frank M. Rinderknecht, the E2 is the tuner's response to a new social attitude, particularly that of the West. It's based on the fact that consumers are looking for green vehicles that still turn out impressive performance.

The engine produces 60 hp in "Commuting" mode and doesn't burn more than four litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. And in "Highway" mode with its 160 ponies it burns under seven litres per 100 kilometres.

Rinspeed says the E2 is one of the first viable applications produced by a customizing firm to change the direction of eco-friendly cars. The new vehicle represents an interesting alternative for those looking to have just as much fun behind the wheel without sacrificing the environment in the process. The E2 Concept will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this March.
