As exciting as it is to check out the latest Groupons and get an uber-cool deal on that vacation you've always wanted to take, it seems that the Groupon phenom doesn't translate well in the automotive world.
A few days ago we posted a news piece on the online saving giant and how they joined forces with a dealer in Detroit to offer a $500 rebate off a new or leased vehicle at a cost of only $199 USD. After the car Groupon was active for 4 days (2 more than originally planned), only 4 consumers were interested in the deal.
While Groupons deals might be ideal for restaurants, spas, hotels and even flight deals, when it comes to cars, negotiation is already a part of the process. Getting your salesman down $200, $300, $500 or even $1,500 is not unheard of. Why would you need to spend more money on an internet craze to save a few hundred dollars on a $25,000 car?
