BMW and DaimlerChrysler AG share their know-how

BMW Group and DaimlerChrysler AG are equally collaborating to the development of a hybrid system for rear-wheel drive vehicles. The goal of these two German automakers is to market the newly created system within the next three years. By sharing their know-how and their resources, they will benefit from significant large-scale savings.

Both BMW and DaimlerChrysler will improve their competitiveness in a market where their demands and expectations are about the same. However, the agreement between the two will have no impact whatsoever on their corporate identity, since the hybrid technology being developed will be tailor-made for each and every model in their respective lineup.

The development process takes place in Germany, starting with the associated powerplants and transmissions. Knowledge and human resources will be integrated for the project. This latest collaboration is the result of a partnership established in the United States in 2005. Since then, BMW and DaimlerChrysler have united their efforts to enlarge their portfolio of alternative technologies and hybrid components.
